DS 1 is 2.5 yo. DS2 is 3 mo...will be almost 4 mo at Christmas. We have a zillion toys still from DS1 all in great condition. We have more clothes than we know what to do with (hand me downs from big bro and a co-workers kids AND we got a ton of gifts when DS2 was born and for his baptism).

Seriously, I have NO idea what to get him. DS1 is getting him a "lambie" blanket (it is the same as DS1's blankie and a super cute/sweet gift since DS1
came up with it).

I'd ask for diapers (which is something we can use and need) but DH's family won't do practical gifts (annoying). My family is great and are giving us things we need, but for everyone else, what do I tell them?

Furthermore...for DS1's sake, what do we get DS2. DS1 WOULD notice if baby brother didn't get gifts from mama & daddy.

For DD2's first Christmas (she was 5-ish months) from us she got things like new baby spoons, bowls and bibs - we were planning to start solids soon - a baby-friendly photo album filled in with photos, and a couple of small toys. (We really didn't need more toys. But like you said, DD1 would totally have noticed that DD2 didn't get "stuff".)

I honestly can't remember AT ALL what our relatives gave her. Probably mostly toys!

What about "family" things? Membership to something, DVDs the 'family' will enjoy, CDs/Music, ...

We're starting solids, so I ordered DD one of these awesome Earth's Best gift packs:
http://www.earthsbest.com/special-offers/earths-best-all-offers

I just think they look so cool, and not a bad deal! I make most of our babyfood at home, but like to have some pre-made stuff on hand for convenience and travel (and we'll be traveling for a week in January). I bought the "Second Foods" set, but you could probably do the "First Foods" since your DS is younger. Even if you plan to wait another couple of months before introducing solids, it'd be a cool gift, IMO!

Oh, DD is also getting things like a baby toothbrush and baby wash/lotion in her stocking.

For ds' first Christmas (he was less than a month old) we took dd's best "old" toys, wrapped them up and put them under the tree (same with the stocking). That way there were pictures of him getting presents and his sister didn't think the presents were all for her.

For family, we ask for memberships to local children's museums or classes.

Are there any toys you wanted, but didn't purchase when DS1 was that age? What about a new crawl/stand/walk toy? Bibs and socks always come in handy. New bottles/sippys or washclothes. Possible some of the cute bath towels that have animals on them?

Something like the wooden cubes with the twisty blocks on top?

DD always wanted one, and I never caved and got one. She still loves them, and she's 3. I wish I would have bought one when she was that age.

Money for college is always great! Are you nursing DS2? If family won't get the hint, tell them breastmilk storage bags, or nursing pads. HA!

Yep...nursing...sure wish I could ask for something like this (see BP post about practical gifts) :)

Love the bibs & socks idea...and the other poster who mentioned wrapping DS1's best toys!

Thanks everyone!
