UPDATE. Hats arrived yesterday. :D

I ordered a couple of knit hats from an Etsy seller in England for dd's stocking at the end of November. I contacted the seller first to ask if they would arrive in time for Christmas. She said she would send them out quickly and they would get here. I got a notice that they were shipped on Dec. 2. They have not arrived. I sent the seller a message on Thursday saying that they have not arrived and asking if she has tracking ability or an estimated arrival date. I have not heard back from her.

What should I do now? I paid by paypal, is there a limit to how long I can wait to file a claim in case they never arrive?

Thanks,
Catherine

I believe it is 45 days from date of purchase.

International shipping can take several weeks and there is no delivery confirmation/tracking on first class international mail. I think you would have to wait at least to the 1st to file. Hope they get there in time!!

Yeah, I knew international could take awhile. That was why I contacted her to verify they would get here by Christmas. I don't know that I particularly want them if they re going to get here after. DD doesn't have all that much in her stocking and I will have to go buy something else to fill it up if they don't get here. If they get here late, do I have any recourse? I doubt it would be worth returning them even if the seller agreed, as they weren't THAT expensive to start with so paying the return shipping wouldn't make much sense.

I guess we have got another week and then we'll see.

I know the frustration... I ordered custom ornaments for the kids from a seller in Canada and she was going to do her best to get them here but I haven't even had a shipping notification. I knew this was a risk but it's not quite as fun to give personalized Christmas ornaments after the tree is put away!

She just sent me a convo; they won't ship until the end of the week or right after Christmas. Bummer! I am debating buying the kids another ornament each for this year to have in their stockings... I would just save these custom ones for next year but my son's says "Baby's first Christmas" on it, naturally.

OOOh. Who did you buy your baby's first ornament from? Even if she was late I'd like to go take a look. I am not concerned about waiting until after Christmas to buy ornaments -- they are to go on the tree in the future, not necessarily the year they are made.

For example, we will go to the mall the week after Christmas to make the 2011 ornament because I want to use a Christmas morning picture of my kids in matching pajamas for one side of it.

This is the version I bought: http://www.etsy.com/listing/81063919/personalized-babys-first-christmas

And this one for DD: http://www.etsy.com/listing/72540222/personalized-little-princess-with

The seller seems super nice and I can't wait to see the ornaments; I just wish I had ordered sooner!

The seller has no control over how long it takes things to get through customs, which is most likely where the holdup is. A neighbor is hosting a German exchange student who we are using as a babysitter, and her father mailed her winter coat at the end of October (why she didn't bring her winter coat for a year in Connecticut, I can't tell you). It arrived last week.

:yeahthat: I remember last year there was a holdup of a lot of Boden's packages in customs and it took a long time for them to arrive.

Yeah. I get that. But the seller is the one who ships internationally. I specifically asked about getting the items by Christmas. She said they would get here. If she couldn't be sure of that because of customs or any other issues she should have said I don't know. Instead she said she would ship right away and they would get here. So as far as I am concerned it is on her.

If it's any consolation, the good ole' United States Postal Service just delivered DD's Santa gift to the same town of mine....in Mass, not North Carolina.

Believe me, I feel your pain.

I had a package shipped on 12/8 from about 3 hrs away. It went from Philly to Jersey then to CALIFORNIA and now is being shipped back to Maryland. Estimated Deliver date was the 13th. Um not liking the USPS so much these days. The shipper ( a BBB Momma) had no clue what was going to happen. I'll be lucky if it gets here by Christmas.

Oh, I agree with you that if it doesn't arrive by Christmas, she definitely should give you a full refund. What I was trying to say is that she did all she did by shipping immediately. There really are no guarantees with international shipping, (I guess unless you order months and months in advance, so you can resend if necessary) so perhaps she shouldn't have told you that it was "guaranteed" for Christmas.

It does still suck though, having to find another gift at the last minute. I hope your package arrives this week.

Hey, FWIW, I got my package (also sent from another BBB Momma) today! It went to that address in MA, arrived there on the 15th and I got in NC today. So there is hope for you. The delivery person told me the scanners they now have read numbers incorrectly often if there is the slightest similarity. Makes me wonder why they use that then, since delivering packages correctly IS THEIR BUSINESS, but hopefully your package will arrive.
