Anyone have any favorite sellers for playsilks? I am looking for a few, just 5 or so and was wondering which sites/sellers you like?

I made my own with silks from Dharma Trading. We all love them.

I have a couple from Sarah's Silks and I actually like the feel of the ones I made better (though I loooooove her rainbow playsilk!).

Another that ordered blanks from Dharma Trading Co. Then I dyed them with Kool-Aid. Great colors, and they smell good!

we have a crown and silk skirt from Sara's and LOVE it. I think we've had them for about 4 years and they're still going strong. and dd1 went through a phase where she went no where w/o that crown!

I also made mine using blanks from Dharma Trading, and Wilton's food coloring. To be honest they have not been the success I was hoping for.

We bought this set (http://www.atoygarden.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=product.display&Product_ID=1114) from A Toy Garden for my DD's first birthday. Both kids play with them now...I'd say it's been one of the better returns on investment I've made in toys.

Even my mother, who looked at me like I was nuts when I gave them to DD, said about a month ago that she couldn't believe how much the kids still played with them.

I like Thai Silks http://www.thaisilks.com/product_info.php?cPath=58_83&products_id=432 Lots of colors. They are on sale now for $7.10 each but I've purchased them on sale for closer to $4-$5 each I think but that's going back quite a while so maybe they don't go that low anymore.

what size/style did you all get from Dharma trading company? I would love to get/make some of these for my daughters birthday (she is going to be 5), but not sure what the best ones to get for "play silks" are. . . . ideas?

I was wondering that too after reading this thread. I found this blog (http://www.365waysprogram.com/2010/12/preschool-toddler-and-baby-gift-guide-play-silks-the-ultimate-gift/) that recommended these silks (http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/eng/1741-AA.shtml?lnav=scarves_silk.html) and this dye (http://www.dharmatrading.com/html/eng/5590684-AA.shtml). I was thinking I would get a mix of the square sizes with the emphasis being on the 30" or 35" ones. I also planned to ordered extras to take advantage of the dye and have some for future birthday gifts. If your daughter is having a party maybe you can even make some for party favors.

Toy Garden has the most beautiful and highest quality I've seen.

I bought the 35x35 size and they're great. I dyed them with kool-aid and they are really bright. We love them. If anyone wants a tutorial, I can pm or email it. My kids play with them all the time.

finally dyed my play silks that i had bought from dharma trading ages ago - i bought this kit for the dye - it was $25 - so not cheap but wow - was it easy. i dyed them in plastic solo cups in my sink - super easy and not at all messy. they turned out gorgeous. i am thrilled and wanted to share with the board.

Colorhue Silk Dyes - 6 Color Set
Want instant gratification? Don't have a lot of time? New at silk painting?

Using COLORHUE dyes is easy, fast and efficient because they require no setting procedures like heat, curing, or chemicals, and there is no powder mixing. The only additive needed is plain tap water to dilute the concentrated liquid colors to the desired shade.

COLORHUE is a concentrated dye — approximately 15 to 20 drops of the concentrated dye in a 1/2 cup of water will make a medium color. But do not expect to acheive the results that artists achieve with professional silk dyes and steaming. Black is the most difficult color - more of a maroony eggplant. Great for beginners and classes, quick projects.

This Colorhue Silk Dye Set is a great way to try out this dye. includes six .5 oz bottles of concentrated dye in assorted colors along with instructions and technique suggestions. Works well on silk, wool, and we even got instant color on some celulose fibers like cotton, rayon, linen and hemp, but we recommend testing!

Kit contains:

Six .5 oz. bottles of Colorhue Dye (Rose, Canary Yellow, Electric Blue, Emerald Green, Black, Turquoise)
6 plastic pipettes
Complete instructions and technique suggestions
