dd1 had an applesauce for lunch and she opened it and didnt have time to eat it. Her teacher gave her a ziplock bag but dd1 couldnt seal it and went on her merry way.

blueberry applesauce leaked through and through the lunchbox and into the backpack. They say spot clean so does that mean hand wash them? :(

Well, I have put them in a pillowcase and in the machine on delicate. (I know, not according to the label, but when desperate. . . ) But for that kind of stain, I think I would try dawn and a scrub brush first. Good luck!

I've put ours through the hand wash cycle on our front loader and they're fine. DS1 has been using them for 3 years now.

I am not familiar with the construction of these bags but I've used Shout with a nail brush on my kids' canvas PBK lunch bags as well as their cheap Lillian Vernon personalized lunch bags and all have come out of the wash looking brand new. I used ALL F&C with vinegar rinse and possibly a little Oxiclean (not of later). Good luck!

This topic is so timely as I was just getting ready to pitch one of DS's LE lunch sacks because it was filthy. Thanks. Hopefully washing it in the washing machine will save me a few bucks on replacing it!

I've put them through the upper rack on the dishwasher and they've come out fine for me.

I asked this once before and everyone said just to throw it in the washer and air dry. So many people did this regularly that it made me feel guilty for having gone a whole year without a clean lunchbox!! I just throw it in a regular wash on cold- comes out fine.

Shoot! I just threw out one 2 weeks ago because I thought I would never get it clean from a rotten banana. Wish I had at least tried it in the washing machine.

This. DS1 puked on his planetbox lunchbox and LE backpack yesterday. Washed them both on a regular cycle with some of our dirty cloth napkins. I hung them both to dry. Both came out beautifully. This is the third time I have washed the planetbox lunchbox like this and the second time for the LE backpack. I suspect we will get two years out of both.

I wash DS LL Bean backpack and his lunchboxes all the time. I did injure his backpack last year when I tried washing it in our old toploader. The machine sliced some of the material on one of the straps. I sewed it up with matching thread, and it is still going strong. No worries in a front loader though.
