Anyone here take Diflucan (for yeast infections) during their third trimester??...
Doc prescribed it but Im very skeptical as Im reading all sorts of negative info on it....Im 36 1/2 weeks and dont have a really bad infection, mostly just topical, so should I just tough it out for the next few weeks, or take the meds? Help!

I would probably opt for a topical cream unless you are miserable. I know that it is safe to take Diflucan while breast feeding if that is a concern.

She reccomended Monistat as an alternative, which isnt really "topical" since its administered vaginally...Know of any topical creams that are safe during pregnancy?

I would stick with a topical or Monistat (my OB told me it was safe.) I'm surprised he/she prescribed Difluclan as both my OB and family dr. told me it hadn't been proven safe during pregnancy when i was battling an infection while preggers. Good luck& hope you get relief soon!

I don't think there's any "topical" that isn't administered vaginally that would help - I mean, you have to get the treatment where the yeast is. I can't use monistat so I use gyne lotrimin instead. I actually have an infection now and will probably need another full week to kick it, sigh. I tend to have very resistant infections. Make sure to air out, take probiotics, etc, too.

Adding: having had a nasty case of thrush that lead to 4 months of horrible diaper rash with my first, I would recommend doing everything possible to get rid of the yeast asap, esp if you will need antibiotics during your delivery.
