After wearing my old glasses for weeks because of pink eye I finally decided to replace them. (I usually wear contacts all day and glasses in the morning when I wake up). I got these.http://www.pearlevision.com/wps/wcm/myconnect/a275cb8045df93c3800e98726fa87ac4/DY4586_679420315058_3qrtr.jpg?MOD=AJPERES&lmod=-258635018
Almost everything they had was the thicker plastic frames so I'm guessing that is the trend right now but they feel so weird and I'm having a hard time getting used to seeing them on my face! I don't know if it's the style or the color or what? I want something that is stylish so I'll be able to wear them more but really am clueless what's in style when it comes to glasses. I have blondish brown hair and green eyes if that helps.

plastic is very in right now, and thicker, rectangular frames. Lots of 'nerd glasses' trends with hornrim and wayfarer type styles.

I've been wearing glasses full time since I was 6, and I'm happy that larger lenses are finally coming back in. My visual field is getting bigger for the first time since the late 80s, lol.

I have been wearing glasses for years and switched to contacts but needed a pair of backup glasses (and after two years am sick of my old ones). I just got these and I LOVE them and feel good putting them on after changing out of my contacts in the evening.

I think the Tiffany styles were all really cute and I used my 30% discount so they weren't too expensive (simple plastic lenses, no frills).

I have to say I can see great with them but they feel and look so STRANGE to me!!!

Those are SO CUTE!!! I had a groupon about to expire and had to go to Pearl Vision so can't check those out but I really like them.

I work on a college campus and my students are all sporting chunkier plastic frames, usually in a color (if not on the outer side then the interior plastic is a bright color in contrast to the outer plastic).

Here are the frames I've been wearing for the last year or so. I love them, though DH isn't so keen (I think the geek-chic thing is one of those trends that really passes guys by!!)

I know what you mean about seeing them on your face, but you do get used to that. I thought about the frameless ones for a while, but Sarah Palin ruined those for me :D

Yes, the nerdier glasses are definitely in style. I have had plastic frames the past 4 yrs, I wore wire frames for almost 8 yrs before that, but it seems like the wired frames aren't in style right now.

I've worn glasses since I was 8 (though I probably needed them much earlier - I started out with a strong prescription) and glasses have definitely gone from "be as inconspicuous as possible" (frameless, wire frames) to "fashion statement" - thicker, bolder plastic frames. A look at Costco's collection is a quick way to see what the trends are:) I need to get new glasses this year!

I think the geek chic, Tina Fey/Sarah Palin style is still really popular. I kind of like them, they add interest.

Hey, mine are just like that! Where are yours from? DD2 yanked one of the side stick things and mine are very loose.

Mine are about 3 years old and nerd-chic was in then. Isn't there another trend on its way in?

They're DKNY and I got them from one of these discount online places - about half the price they wanted to charge me in Lenscrapters, or wherever it was in the Mall. I think if you google DKNY 4561 you'll get some options. I'm not sure if I fall into the geek-chic, or just geek category!

I just got a pair very similar to Trigglets. I agree with PP's that plastic, nerdy-type glasses are in now.

I get compliments on my tortoise, square-ish frames all the time. I've only had them a few months. Previous to this I had wire rimmed glasses that DD bent :irked: , so that forced me to get a more "hip" pair.

The only thing I don't like - it took me awhile getting used to these plastic, heavier frames. My wire rimmed ones had smaller lenses and were just so light, I barely noticed I had them on. I am aware I am wearing my current plastic frames, and the first few weeks they felt very "heavy". I am now at the point where I am getting used to wearing them, but they unfortunately are not as comfortable as my wire rimmed pair with the nose pads. Ah, what we do for the sake of fashion.

Yes, I have had the same experience too. After yrs of wire frames that were super lightweight, my plastic ones seem bulky and I am always having to push them back up on my nose. I guess I'm going for the full nerd effect, lol. I may go back to wire frame next time, just b/c they were more comfy.

I love those Tiffany ones. That is the correct shape for my face. Hmm. I need new glasses, I lost mine 6 months ago and have been walking around fuzzy ever since.

This is what I've been wearing for several years:

They are tortoise shell on the outside and turquoise on the inside, with nosepads! I have to wear nose pads due to my very strong prescription and skinny nose. Glad to know that I'm somewhat in style :wink2:

I love the idea of the plastic/tortoise rims on glasses, and think they are fabulous on other people. But I have tried on dozens of different styles and I really don't like they way they look on me. I feel they make my already smallish, deep-set eyes look even smaller and my, not-exactly-delicate nose look even more prominent.

As much as I would like to find a pair of cool "statement" glasses, I always end up going back to half-rim wire glasses, because they're the ones that seem most flattering. My current pair is similar to these...

But I really would like to break out of my box and get something a little funkier.

Those are really cute, and they look pretty lightweight, too.

I miss my nosepads :( I wish I had searched a bit more to find a pair that had them.

oh boy those Tiffany glasses are sweet. I had been wearing plastic for a LONG time, then decided to try wire again and my dh said it looked old lady-like. lol. time for a new pair and those Tiffany's fit the bill.

eta: sorry op, i meant to rec the glasses i have but those tiffany's are much nicer imo. i agree with pp, plastic is in, wire out. i would go with plastic that flatters the shape of your face. the nerdy big square glasses are not necessarily flattering for all face shapes (like mine, which is already square) imo.

I have really bad eyes and a hard core prescription. My fav glasses brands are real glasses brands, ie companies that make glasses and not clothes or anything else. OGI and Lafont are fantastic glasses. Their styles change often to keep up with the trends.

Geeky glasses are definitely in, but I don't like plastic frames, so picked a pair of thin and light metal frame glasses from Axiom collection (http://prodesigndenmark.com/en-US/Products.aspx?ID=2&ModelNumber=&Group=GROUP6000)by Prodesign Denmark. Don't remember the model number but mine have a light purple tint to them. Interestingly, DH picked a pair from the same collection with slightly larger lenses, and I had nothing to do with it. Both are very professional/understated.

I also tried these (http://eyeglasses.go-optic.com/store/eyeglasses/details.asp?id=43615) Mikli glasses and loved them in red, too bad they were much more expensive at my optician's store. My Costco also carries this brand but, unfortunately, not this exact style. Maybe next time...

Great thread! I am desperately in need of new glasses. I LOVE those tiffany glasses, but may be more than my insurance will spend.
I was looking at these recently:

I love checking back in on this thread seeing what everyone has to say. Still can't get used to the ones I got...I'm going to go back this week and try on some different ones. I spent way too much on them (horrible prescription) to not love them. I think I will try and stick to plastic but maybe go more for the shape of the Tiffany ones. I'll update if I switch!

I just wanted to thank who ever posted the Tiffany glasses. I just bought them this morning at LensCrafters. I can't wait to get them.
