I have a family member who has consistently given me hand me downs for DD throughout the last 4 years. Everything from car seats, clothes, shoes, toys, etc. They live several states away, so everything has to be shipped.
I am beyond grateful for all the things she has given us!!! It has saved us an enormous amount of money! I know she will not take money. Any ideas what I can do as a thank you?
Her DD is an only child and comes from a wealthy family. I know she has a ton of toys, dvds, etc. I can't come up with anything to send.

We get lots of hand-me-downs from a co-worker. I've given clothes for their boys and/or GC to clothes stores. If you're concerned that this won't work, maybe a GC to a nice restaurant. Or maybe something as simple as a edible arrangement, cookie arrangement.

I give a lot of nice hand-me-downs to a few people and would never expect anything in return. However, I have noticed they give really nice presents at bdays.

The appropriate thank you for a gift like that, IMO, is a heartfelt thank you note.

I like to see their kids wearing the clothes or using the stuff. It's absolutely not a must but it's fun to see them being used again. A thank you note is always welcome.

Bake some cookies or some other easily shipped sweet treat with your DD's help, and write a heartfelt thank you note, as PP suggested (with your DD's help too if you can! I don't know how old she is, but she can color on one side with crayon or paint, or draw a picture, or whatever!). I vote that you don't need to send her something more monetary in nature (GC, etc) but that she would be touched to get a thank you card.

I have given away lots of baby gear and clothes to close friends and never expected anything in return. Like PP's said, a heartfelt thank you and seeing their kids wear the clothes was very satisfying for me. One friend made a donation to a charity in our honour which I thought was a really nice gesture.

a thank you note is great. a gc to a local ice cream shop or something fun like zoo or museum passes?

I get a lot for DS1 from my SIL. I make sure to pack some of the clothes when we go visit so that she sees him or DS2 wearing them. We've also done gift cards for restaurants a couple times, or to other family venues.

I agree with PPs that a thank you note is great. And from personal experience... please don't gush on facebook about how much money you made from selling the hand me downs!!

How about a zoku (unless they already have one) and maybe print out a few recipes to go with it?

PAKIN-- AMEN to that !!!!! :) i had a friend take a bunch of very nice handmedown toys once and as she was taking them she commented about the one thing she didn't take with "i just sold that same thing at x and such consignment..."
all i could think was- -SHE IS TAKING MY STUFF TO CONSIGN. i didn't mind giving the stuff (i was trying to get rid of it)- but that comment was NOT cool :(

I get hand me downs and it never occurred to me to give a thank you gift. I say thank you and that's it.
