I have someone interested in buying some of my son's old clothes. I told her I had a large amount of the sizes she was interested in and that I would look thru them and tell her what I have and she replied telling me to let her know what I want for them.

What I have is about 13 pairs of pajamas, 20 pairs of pants, 20 long sleeves shirts + heavier fleece sweatshirts, about 15 short sleeve shirts/polos, 2 LE Bathing suits, 5 pairs shorts, an LLBean raincoat, a few other light weight jackets. The brands are mostly Gap, Carters, Gymboree. Some of the items (not the brands listed) were passed on down to me and those arent in as good shape.

Some of the pants are fleece or sweatpants, but there are at least 8 pairs of nice baby Gap jeans, fleece lined jeans, khakis & cargo pants that are higher quality.

I think she would like a price for the entire lot. Chances are her DH will come up to pick them up from me so she might not be the one to pick thru them and decide what she wants and what she doesnt since she lives about 45 min away.

Is $100 for the whole thing too much?

What is the size range of the items? In baby sizes the brands hardly matter because the volume of available clothes is so high.

Unless you are talking about size 4+ then I wouldn't pay $100 for what you have described. That is >$1 and item and, though it may not sound fair, that is about the max most people pay when buying a large lot of items. When buying a large lot, people have to consider there may be items not to taste, that duplicate what they already own, etc.

I would likely ask $75, but I live in a moderate COL area. You might get more elsewhere. You could also say, I'd like X amount for just the pants, Y for all the PJs, etc.

I live in a fairly high COL area. It sound like you have between 50-60 items. At $100 that makes it $2 or less an item. I would charge that. However, I would also pay that for the lot. Around here $1 or less an item usually means it is stained, has holes, is very worn etc...

I've sold large lots on both CL and various online forums, as well as letting local people sort through and take what they want. So far I've only sold clothes up to size 2T. My standard pricing is the same as what a friend and I charged when we sold at a yardsale last year:

.50 per single item like pants, shirts, onesies
$1 for one piece outfit
$2 for matched sets
$3-$5 for nicer dresses, coats, etc.

If selling an entire lot, I calculate using these prices and then knock some money off (depending on how many pieces are in the lot), for the ease of getting rid of it all in one haul. If someone wants a super large lot (like combing several sizes together), then I lower the price a fair amount since they are doing the pleasure of taking it all off my hands!

You could also look around at local consignment shops and see what stuff is priced at and then go a bit cheaper than that. When I sell at a consignment shop, I make 50% profit off their selling price, so I try to price things according to that.

Well I had already sent her the $100 price. I said I wasnt sure what to price it...maybe $100?

I am willing to knock like $25-$30 off is she asks.

I think that is very reasonable. I just bought an assortment of Gymboree shirts and shorts from a friend. I paid $4 a piece because they were in good condition. I typically pay that at consignment stores or sales. DS is a 4T.
