We had a polypropylene rug from Home Depot or Lowe's in our rental (put it in a room where the kids played to minimize the damage to the rug). It had a perpetual hump that I couldn't get out though, so not sure if we got a bad one or what. It was one you could hose off outside, and it was big (8x10 or close to it) and under 100 bucks.

We bought some outdoor carpet off the roll at home depot several years ago. I made an area rug out of it, actually. It was super cheap, quite durable and just right for my household that regularly destroys carpeting.

I think we paid about 65 cents/sq foot.

Overstock usually has some good options. I've seen nice ones at Costco too.

If you have a Christmas Tree Shop near you it might be worth checking out. They usually have a selection of indoor/outdoor rugs at a bargain price (these aren't exactly highest quality rugs, but they should get the job done).
