I have really been motivated by a lot of the threads recently about sugar and starchy carbs. I went low carb after reading Gary Taubes book in January and found I felt great, it was "easy" to stick to, and lost about 13 lbs with relative ease. Then came Easter, as well as our spring break week.
While I have been trying to encourage our 5 year old DD (she is 46 inches tall and 4y lbs, so she is not petite and I worry that the pediatrician will classify her as overweight at our 5 year check up next week, notwithstanding that she is inches taller than all her classmates) to eat less sugar, cereal, bread and pastas, and more primal or paleo foods -- I also felt like there should be some leeway for holidays. It has also been a month of birthday cakes, her's, each classmates, and it all culminated with Easter baskets and then a week on vacation with lots of rolls at dinners out, and lots of desserts.
I let myself "splurge" too. Not sure why... but I did.
Every single night though I had a bloated feeling and tmi, but very loose poops. I found that I basically was in the bathroom within 30 minutes of every piece of bread, and I used to be a regular "once a morning" kind of bm-er.
I have since gotten mostly back on the wagon for the last 2 days, though my stomach is still not normal. I had some wheat thins last night to "test it" (seems silly now, but I am being honest) and 15 minutes later, I was back on the can.
I can't have Celiac's... I have no other signs and it is just too coincidental that it would happen after giving up and then "binging" on wheat products. But I just feel LOUSY with them. My DH says that I shouldn't need affirmation or an answer... if they don't make me feel good, I should just not eat them. For some reason, I don't find that satisfactory :) I just wonder if others who have gone off starches/bread have ever had this happen. Maybe it is time for me to give them up for good. I don't get any of this from fruits or veggies, or frankly even icecream, so it isn't the sugar or fructose. It seems to be the wheat. I wonder if an intolerance can develop just from abstaining for it for a time? Thanks in advance for any thoughts. This group is so educated on these kinds of matters!!
