what will be the best set up for the car seats once baby arrives?

we've got a 2012 enclave with captains chairs in the second row.

DS is installed in his frontier behind the front passenger seat b/c that is easiest for me to simply reach him his cup or take whatever he is reaching me.

question is, when baby arrives, i know that when we drive as a family, one adult will sit in the back. so, if i install baby in the other captain char, than the adult has to shimmy and shake to get into the back row, unless we uninstall the base each time. which i would rather not do.

so does baby go in the back? is that a really bad idea? seems like it would be a real pain to get her in and out if she's back there.

i know there is a latch option in the center of the back bench.

i am loathe to move DS back there b/c he's now very attached to his window seat.

thanks for your thoughts.

I would just put both kids in the captain's chairs. I'm not sure why one adult would have to sit in the back?

DS was a hater of the car seat. for this reason, and just in general, we found it much easier to have an adult in the back. for spit-up cleanup, for patting/soothing, etc.

I would put them both in the second row for ease of every day use.

I'm not sure why you would have to uninstall the base to get to the third row? Do the captain's chairs slide forward and back? If so, slide it all the way back and I would think you would have enough room. The base needs to be at least 80% on the seat and most likely will be entirely on the seat so it should not block the aisle.

Another option would be to put the baby in the third row behind the passenger seat and fold the middle row seat down if you can.

However, with two in the second row, the third row passenger will not be able to do these things without being unbuckled or majorly out of position. The adult would be just as far away in the third row as in the front.

DH has an Acadia (pretty much the same thing as the Enclave) with the Captain's chairs, all I can tell you is that wherever you put the baby, you'll have to unbuckle and almost stand up to attend to anyone, unless you put the frontier in the third row, and then you could attend to the baby in the passenger seat. we have 3 DC and DH almost never drives the baby (he drops off DD6 at school and I take daycare dropoff and pickup) so for very rare use, we have the baby (8 months) in the third row middle. As he is getting heavier it is incredibly difficult to get him in there, almost impossible at this point. We are now booster training DD so she can buckle herself in the third row. You can't really see the baby in the third row middle at all, and to get the seat into the base, the second row seats have to be forward all the way. I say put both kids in the 2nd row and see how it goes, because it really is not an easy setup in the back.
