I'm looking at Safamama's 2011 recommendations for the safest sunscreens.

http://safemama.com/cheatsheets/sunscreen/

I hope she does a 2012 version soon! But, I'm needing sunscreen now for DC, so need to go ahead and buy...I've never heard of any ofnthese except California Baby, which I know now prob won't make the list, right?

Can you get ANY of these at a B&M store? We do have Earthfare and Fresh Market around here, as well as various health food stores. Has anyone found these w/o having to order online? tIA!

I know I can get the Badger ones at Wegman's and Whole Foods, which are both near me, but I don't know that I've seen any of the others.

Well, maybe the Kiss My Face, which is also available at Wegman's.

Everything else, I haven't looked.

Our favorites from last year's list are the All-Terrain spray and Episencial Sunny. I've seen both at our local co-op store. Amazon also has some of the sunscreens on Subscribe and Save and Costco had All-Terrain very briefly last year.

I saw the All Terrain Kidsport spray at Walgreens last summer, but when I did more research, it didn't get great reviews.

Target carries the California Baby sunscreens, IIRC.

Not on her list but two others that are rated well on Skin Deep are the J+J baby sunscreen and Babyganics (although this says last updated in 1999 for the babyganics and I don't know if they were even around then)

I've purchased badger sunscreen at whole foods. I've also purchased all terrain sunscreen at Target of all places - it was last summer though, and I'm not sure if Target carries the spray version.

Just so you know Badger and UV Naturals (can be bought at whole Foods) are very greasy feeling!

We bought the Johnsons and Johnsons baby sunscreen and it's alright.

My kids like the Neutrogena pure and free Baby but it doesn't score well.... the stick scores better. We like it for quick re applications to their face.

You might be able to find the Alba mineral sunscreen locally. Just make sure it's the Natural "Mineral protection" sunscreen.... their regular "natural" sunscreen has chemical sunscreen in it.

They reformulated. I honestly have no idea how that will effect their EWG rating, etc.

California Baby reformulated some of their products earlier this year including the body washes and calendula cream. The formula changes gave some kids rashes but the company initially claimed they hadn't changed anything and blamed the skin issues on season changes, lots of internet hubub and bad PR about it.

I don't know if the sunscreen formula was changed because we haven't used it but you may want to look at the labels before re-ordering.
