Hi Moms and Dads.

Can anyone offer me tips and suggestions for places to go and see while in Chicago in August?

I have a list in my head but I would love to hear suggestions from those who live in Chicago or have traveled with children to Chicago.

The map makes everything look so close but I know that isn't true.

We may be staying at the Radisson Blu. Is that a good location? Is that a good hotel? I'm staying there for business but may have the option to stay elsewhere.

How much of a hike is it to the usual spots (Mil Park, Grant Park)?
Will I need a car to get to Navy Pier, the Aquarium, Field Museum etc or is it walkable?

Is Legoland Discovery Centre worth the drive?

How far is the drive to the Lincoln Zoo?

Any cool events happening in the second and third weeks of August aside the air and water show?

Thanks for sharing your suggestions.

Google maps will be your friend. Just click on the walking man and it will give you estimates on how long of a walk it is.

Looks like it won't be far at all for you. Should be less then 10 minutes. Art Museum is right there too. The John Hancock building is about a 20 minute walk (along the magnificent mile) north of you. I like the hancock a lot because of the open air section in the observatory.

Navy Pier should be about a 15 min walk so you will not need a car. There is a children's museum at navy pier. My kids loved it. The Children's museum is FREE for all visitors every Thursday, 5-8 pm. It is also FREE on the first Sunday of each month for children 15 and under.

The Museum Campus is a bit further. Depends on what you guys are up for. This walk is about 30 minutes but its a beautiful walk along the lakeside. I have done it with kids but I didn't actually go into the museums just did it for the sake of the walk. So if you are planning on a long day in the museum it might be worth doing the drive.

Sorry, never been.

Not far but you will want to drive.
