Leaving DS with parents, need letter in case of emergency
We will be leaving sooner than expected to adopt a newborn. DS is staying with my parents and they want a letter from us in case there is a medical emergency and we can not be reached. Does anyone know how this should be worded? I have tried to search here and and I have no idea what I am doing! Any help would be greatly appreciated.
TIA,
Kathleen
RE: Leaving DS with parents, need letter in case of emergency
I'd think just write up something very general. "We, (mom's name) & (dad's name) hereby give permission to (grandparents names) to make all necessary decisions & take any action necessary in the event of a medical emergency where the parents cannot be reached."
Definitely can use some improvement, but I don't think it needs to be too legalese sounding. You have no trust issue that they'd misuse it, right? It sounds like they just want to cover themselves in case he needs any kind of medical care & the authorities (dr, hospital, etc.) say - 'well you're not the parent or legal guardian, so we can't take your word for it.'
Hope this helped & good luck with your adoption trip.

Have it noterized also. Anyone could write up a letter and say it was from you but w/ a notery stamp it has more legal standing

Congratulations!!
I don't know about the legalities of your state, but here is a form provided by a lawfirm in Arizona:

Here is a link which allows you to generate and print your own form:
