Quick: is it ok to use cake box mix that expired 10/2011?

I'm cleaning out closets and wondering if it's ok to bake today. It says best by Oct. 15, 2011?

I would use it without hesitation. Worst case scenario is that the powder might have a few more clumps. Give it a quick shake or stir and they will loosen up.

I second the motion. Expiration dates for the vast majority of food stuff is "good if used by" it's not going to make you sick, just not be that great, possibly. They also don't assume you are keeping stuff in the best place, like a cool, dark pantry.

If you *really* need it for an event or something today, my only hesitation would be that it may not rise. The baking powder in it may be past its prime, and so you run the risk of going to the trouble of making it and not having it rise properly.

If you are just making it for yourself and don't need it for a specific event, then I'd try it and see what happens.

Meh. I totally would. I don't expect the cake to behave any differently.
