There's always a favorite book or toy. Maybe a souvenir from a trip you have taken so that he can talk about the trip itself?

Matthew's preschool class will begin doing show and tell next week. The teacher's rule is that the item has to correspond to the letter that they are working on that week (next week is M). Maybe choosing a letter will spark ideas?
Reichen's first will be his "yellow belt" from martial arts that he just got.
I am entertaining the Ukraine flag or his orange Yuchenko scarf and the fight of democracy in Ukraine...
I can't wait to see what other are doing...
I thought of you today jessica as I was in his "meet the teacher" and wondered a similiar question.
We met the teacher today too!! I almost cried on the way out I was so happy. His classroom is perfect, his teacher is perfect. I am so excited.
Our yellow belt is not in yet so we so far have done
Riechen's AWESOME camping vest, it has nooks and crannies and pockets to hold a compass, red flag (if you are lost), id...it is FUN!!!! and then he put on his pirate hat from our trip.
Just this past monday I had him take in this rain stick that I have made from a dead cactus in chile...it is HUGE but the sound is so pretty. I cringed with him taking it that something could go wrong and wanted to say "don't let anyone touch it"...but swallowed that and told him if anyone wanted to play with it they could just don't let it bang on the floor!!!!
I was hoping you had ideas that I coudl learn from.
I remember one show and tell as a child and I honestly took an EARTHWORM...I was obsessed with them as a young child and how they bounced up and down, I remember the night before playing with it at the dinner table :)
Not only does she have to bring something that starts with that week's letter, but we have to hide it in a bag or box and she provides "clues" for her buddies to guess what her share is.

My oldest did a birdsnest she found a few years ago, toys were pretty popular too ;)
We also did a macaw feather but that only works if you own one LOL :D
I know some kids in my girls classes over the years brought in live pets :o

An earthworm?!!! :)
My daughter has taken in a book, a talking doll (it speaks Chinese), mini album from a trip to Hongkong (specifically made for her to take to school), a little purse that she "made," a really neat folding cube toy thing--I can't really describe it. I can't remember what else she's taken. We usually scrounge around for something the night before or the morning of, so we're not all that inspired. We look for small-ish items that either have special meaning for her, are unusual, or that she's obsessed with for the moment. Sometimes, we do need to redirect her selections, but frankly, so long as she picks something by the time we need to leave, we usually let her choose whatever she wants.
Our neighbor girl across the street called and asked
my husband if she could borrow some antlers.
(My husband goes hunting quite frequently and he brings
home antlers that he finds.)
She had to bring the "Show-and-Tell" item to school
in a bag. Then she had to provide the class with 3 clues
about her item.
Some of the popular items were from vacations, unique items that the child would talk about and talk about the trip, etc.
Of course favorite books and toys were always popular too, I especially liked the books.
Random items like a lost tooth, baby bracelet from when child was at the hospital, photo from the last trip to the farm, Daddy's ID badge he has to wear at work, those kind of things are fun, too.
My daughter took a rock with a tiny fossil, some kind of shell thing that shows up pretty often. Our local zoo has a nature swap shop for the kids, bring in a rock, get something else, kids seem to think it is realy neat.

Our school traditionally has show and tell on Friday of every week. The teachers ask that we refer to the letter of the week. This week's letter was G. So we searched last night for just the right pictures of Grandparents.
Last week was the letter A. We went to the local farmer's market and bought an apple for every child.
I would be here for hours trying to remember what my kids have brought over the years. It isn't so much what they bring, it's the thought behind it and its importance to your child.
Stuffed animals, pictures, and food items are always good ideas. On days with difficult letters, I have had the kids make a picture of an item starting with that letter. This way they are also getting in some art time too and quality time with my husband or myself.

My five year old will not entertain any suggestions at all, he just picks what he wants and I just go with it unless it would be inappropriate. They also hide it in a bag and give 3 clues. He picked a toy car for his first one, instead of my suggestion for cool coins given to him by his great grandfather, LOL.
Sterling I bet your home is fun!!!
I'm just imagining how busy you must stay :)
