Remedies for deep scratches/scrapes?
DD got scratched by our cat right on the bridge of her nose several weeks ago. Every time it begins to heal, dd picks at it until it opens up again...I am not sure if that is because it is itchy, she doesnt like the feel of the dried skin, or what.
Does anyone have any suggestions for what I can use to help her heal? I am also beginning to worry about scars because she has picked at it so much.
Thanks,

Have you used any antibiotic ointment on it? I've used breastmilk on scratches before and it provides essentially the same thing. Although I'm not a big fan of overuse of antibiotics, I would at least use it while it's open, and then just keep it covered with something like aquaphor so that maybe it won't itch as much as it heals up.

I'm not sure if this is a Canadian product or not, but there is a company called Jason that makes kind of herbal type skin care products (soaps, skin creams etc). They make a product called 'Witch Vera' which is a combination of witch hazel and aloe vera gel. I occasionally get hives and have found that Witch Vera will stop the itch almost immediately on contact. It is also good for healing cuts/scrapes etc. Oh and if you have mosquitos it is really good on mosquito bites/itchy bug bites. I usually buy it at a drug store but I noticed the other day that Wal-mart carries it here so you could try there. Again, not sure if Jason is available in the States but it's worth the effort to track down this stuff - I swear by it!

Thanks so much for the replies.
I will see if we have Witch Vera here. I know we have Jason products, but have never noticed that particular product.
Eileen, what kind of product would be an antibiotic cream...is that something like Neosporin...I try to stay away from them too, so I don't know anything about them.
Thanks!

Yes, it's Neosporin. DH uses it on Kaya if I'm not around, but if I'm around, I'll put my BM on her. He mostly uses it once when she first gets a scratch (especially if it's a cat scratch, which has a tendency to get infected) and then after that we'll use aquaphor to keep it from drying out and getting itchy.
