How cold does in get in North Carolina?
Hi, I'm looking for a gift for my SIL and found a great fur scarf that she would love. They just moved to North Carolina and I know nothing about the climate. Would it be cold enough for her to wear a fur scarf? From what they say, it's perpetual summer down there...
RE: How cold does in get in North Carolina?
definitely not perpetual summer. we do have winter. this winter has been way above average temperatures, so currently a fur scarf would be out. but the temp is expected to go down to normal after the weekend. we often see 30s and 40s in the winter. but 50s are pretty normal. today is 61 and considered rather warm.

I am in Southeast Virginia right across the NC border. I would agree with the previous poster 100%. Monday it's supposed to be 70 here, but that's unseasonably warm!

Thank you for your quick replies. I guess I'm not sure if a fur scarf is appropriate for NC winters; what do you think?

It's a nice gesture, but I don't think that she would get much use out of it. I think that I used gloves maybe twice last year.

I grew up in east Tennessee (near the border with NC) and I don't recall many folks wearing fur. I don't think it would be cold enough for long enough. Unless you know she really wants it, I'd go for something else.

Thanks so much. I think I'll find something else for my SIL and save the faux fur for those farther north.

It depends on where she is - some of the higher elevations in the western part of the state can get pretty cold in the winter. My IL's live there, and get plenty of snow and cold weather, though it doesn't really compare to the NE or midwest. Anywhere else though, and I'd say you'd be better off getting her sandals. ;)
