Calcium deposits on fingernails - should I worry?

DS has calcium deposits on his fingernails - white flecks on fingernails. Is this something I need to worry about?

I presume this means he's getting too much calcium.

Leuconychia is evident as white lines or spots in the nail plate and may be caused by tiny bubbles of air that are trapped in the nail plate layers due to trauma. This condition may be hereditary and no treatment is required as the spots will grow out with the nail plate.

I always thought it was due to "trauma" like Lydia said, myself. I get white spots on my fingernails, but only when I bang them into things or squish my fingers in things. (I swear, I'm more graceful than that makes me sound.) As my nails grow out, they eventually are gone.

So this doesn't have anything to do with calcium? I grew up thinking there was a link with those white spots and excess calcium.

I didn't realize there was a connection to trauma. I can;t think of anything going on for him other than the fact that he is transitioning to a new classroom at school. Is this the kind of trauma I should be thinking of or like a bumping up against something trauma?

It could be trauma he doesn't even know about. I get them all the time (have one that's just about grown out) and no reason I can remember for them. Maybe it's heredity for me? Anyway, if mine are trauma caused, it's not by anything that actually hurt me.

It's the whacking things kind of trauma, not the stress kind of trauma. Sometimes I remember the event, sometimes I don't (much like bruises, really). Since it's often something where you damaged it while it was growing where you can't see it, you have plenty of time to forget the pain...

I had these for the longest time. I finally asked my doctor and she told me to drink more milk. I did, and they completely vanished in three days.
Maybe it was the power of suggestion, but it worked for me.
