I've never had a glider, I think that they are ugly and scream nursery, so too hard to re-function gracefully into our decor after the baby phase.
I have used the ikea poang chair, although I admit, it doesn't work that well for nursing a large toddler, more for the under a yr size.
My fav is my LANE leather recliner/rocker. DH and I fight over who will get this chair after it is retired as a nursing chair. So comfy and plush, if the baby spits up, it is easily wiped off, it reclines and rocks. What's not to love?

We read stories on the kids' beds or on the couch in the living room. Even when I had a glider we didn't use it for reading together.

We spent a little more money and bought an awesome, wide, supery comfy recliner from La-Z-Boy when DD1 was born. I LOVE IT. We all do, in fact. It is the most fought over seat in the house! It is wider than average and the arms are wooden and wide and flat, so plenty of room to snuggle in.

Ikea Poang chair. Which I also nursed DS2 in till he weaned last month at nearly 3 years old (using the My Brest Friend Pillow the whole time)!

With DD1 we sat on the sofa most of the time. We also had a rocking chair, but I never nursed much in it.
We have a Little Castle recliner/glider that is super comfy and looks like a piece of normal furniture, not a traditional nursery glider. We used that with DD2. I am soo glad we got it. It is similar to this one (but a former floor model from a baby store so it has custom fabric, but I was all set to get this one from Wal Mart). We bought it to eventually move it to the living room and thankfully the fabric will coordinate, but seriously I can't see it leaving DD2's room for some time. She loves it now too. We read the bedtime books there.

We sit on their beds to read them stories and cuddle.

we never had a glider/rocking chair and went with an ikea poang chair for the nursery. that was replace with a pbk anywhere chair so dd could sit and read, but we cuddle and read in her read as a part of her bedtime routine.

There is very little room in either of the kids rooms for a chair. We read bedtime stories on the couch in the living room for DS2 (still in a crib). For DS1 we sit on the floor next to his toddler bed. Sometimes he'll sit in my lap, but most of the time he sits up in bed.

We have a sofa in DC's room. I never wanted a rocker/glider and am so glad we didn't buy one. If we didn't have room for a sofa, we'd have an upholstered or leather chair with ottoman.
