At what age did you put your DC in a bunk bed?

I'm hoping this is the right forum for this question, bed related right? I think eventually we'll be getting bunk beds for our DD's. But I'm not sure what age would be appropriate for sleeping on the top bunk. I remember having one for awhile when I was like 10 & my brother about 6 (me on the top bunk & him on the bottom) but I think we could've had them years earlier than that. What age did you put your DC on the top bunk?

We bought bunk beds for DS1 and DS2. I was worried about putting my older son in the top bunk b/c he was only 3 at the time- now 4- and it's not recommended until 6. However, I watched him climb up and down in and out of the top bunk numerous times and realized he was perfectly capable of doing it. I was a little worried about him getting up and down in the middle of the night, but that hasn't been a problem either. Our bunk beds have a rail on the top, so there's no way he can fall out. I am perfectly comfortable with him sleeping up there and he's been sleeping there for several months now (just turned 4 in June).

Thanks...that's good to know. I've been checking online & have seen some really cute junior loft type beds that I think will be perfect when we move next summer. :)

I don't think they are a safe idea till the kids are like 6 years old. That's the random number I came up with and told ds we'll get him one then.
