I believe it's pronounced "nar-chee". I remember reading in the window of a Naartjie store that a "Naartjie" is a fruit found in South Africa. :)

According to my father who was raised in south africa (and thus speaks Afrikaans as well as english) it has two prounications:

    NAART-jee

    or

    NAART-chee

Where he was raised (Cape Town) he said the more common prouncation was naart-jee.

And NAartjioe is the afrikaans word for "any small easily peeled citrus fruit" such as a tangerine or a mandrin orange. Supposedly in Afrikaans there are not separate words for them. In fact, when my father moved to the US when he was 20 to go to university he was shocked to hear they had different names.
