DS has a pair of shoes in 5.5 wide from Stride Rite. I'd like to avoid spending $40+ per pair in the future but still want to get him good quality shoes that will fit his wide width. Where else can I shop for these? TIA!

We've had good luck with Payless
DS is an XW and the Stride Rite do fit him well. I recently scored a great pair of sneakers from the SR outlet for $19.99. Any chance there is an outlet near you?

Have you tried www.seekairun.com ? They run really wide and generally cost about $30. They are absolutly adorable.

Kmart carries Tom McCan (sp?) shoes that are good quality, and around $15.
If they are a regular W (not XW) you might not need wide at all in other brands - Stride Rite has a way of getting repeat customers by making all babies' feet "wide" (which very few other brands make or carry).
Best,

Oh wow, I bet that's it! That makes sense.

I never thought of going to payless! That sounds perfect because we can try the shoes on without paying a fortune for them!
I've also been less than impressed with how eager SR (and even the outlets) are to call my DD's feet wide when other shoe stores don't. It's a little suspicious, don't you think? :)
That being said, I do like their outlets and have found some great shoes for good prices there. And they are having their nice buy one, get one half off sale at the regular stores now.

We buy all of DS's shoes at the SR outlet. MUCH cheaper there! They are having a buy one get one 50% off on all sneakers at the outlets through the 25th or 27th of March (can't remember). I bought some fisherman sandals and 2 pairs of navy Keds on Saturday at our outlet. I got 2 pairs of the Keds since they were buy one get one 50% off. We'll definitely use both pairs this summer if not by the fall.
