I am so Happy that I happen to see this thread! I never would have ever imagined that piece was important. I bet alot of people have thrown it out as well. How Scary to think that. I am going to contact Britax as soon as I can in the morning.

Thanks for posting this! I was about to post a similar query because I just took off the cover on my Britax RA to wash it (and WHY isn't it machine washable? Like I have TIME to handwash yogurt out of a carseat!?!) and noticed that my styrofoam was cracked on one side too. I was freaking out about spending another $200 on a carseat!
