Default is it safe to recline a captain's chair to fit the marathon in it??

DS is 15 months and we recently turned him forward facing (hopefully only for the time being). We had several long road trips, and being nearly 9 months pregnant, I was unbearably uncomfortable not being able to stretch my legs out, and WAY too close to the dashboard/airbag in the passenger seat. However, now that he is forward facing and his seat is extremely upright, he HATES it. He fusses everytime we put him in it, and he rarely falls asleep in it anymore. I want to turn him back rear facing....he is a peanut, and just over 22 pounds, so I know it is much safer, but DH thinks we can recline the captains chair to make him more comfortable forward facing, or recline it while he is rear facing to give me more room. Does this seem safe? When he showed me what he meant, the car seat is firmly attached and not budging an inch, but it just doesn't seem safe with the seat back of the captain's chair reclined like it was?

    Anyone??

reclining it while rearfacing should be okay. You can put the carseat upright when rear facing and that should give you more room too.

what kind of car do you have? maybe someone else has experience with that same car.

You can put the MA in recline mode for any child under 33 pounds, so recline the seat (MA)itself, and then recline the vehicle seatback a bit.
As long as the base is in solid contact with the vehicle seat, and the MA's not budging at all, you're fine.

Default what is a captains' chair?

Just curious.. what is a captain's chair? I am imagining those collapsible camping chairs, but that can't possibly be what everyone is talking about.

You know the seats in the minivans and SUV'sthat aren't bench seats, but are just like the front seats, with fold down armrests, and they recline independently, and might also be called bucket seats? Those are captain's chairs.
I can't find any really good pictures of one on google, but I'm not looking too hard (dinner time, you know, lol...)
