Marathon on a plane?

Calling all Marathon owners: I'm flying next week with my 6 mo, and think it's time to upgrade to a convertible car seat. I'm pretty sure that I'm going to get the Britax Marathon, but had a question about taking it on the plane. I read in BB that it's too big to fit in an airplane seat, but read on some other posts that people have used it for ailine travel. Anyone out there with experience? TIA!

I have never heard of a Marathon NOT fitting on an airline seat. My Chase fits and it is much wider at the bottom. I would get the marathon, but, as long as DB still fits in the infant seat I would use that for on the airplane. They are SO much lighter and easier to handle. Then, if you ever have to use the Marathon get the gogo kids "wheels" for it. The Marathon is okay to use, but I think you'll appreciate the infant seat for the trip. If I had a child that was using a convertable, but still safely fit in an infant carrier I would definately choose the carrier for flying.

We've used our MA forward facing on a couple of planes with absolutely no fit problems.

The MA will fit in almost all airplane seats. I've flown on most of the regional jets with it, and had no problems.

For our last trip, we used the Samonsonite Micro Mover http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg...31823?v=glance which worked well for an MA and RA.

Joy, thanks for the tip, and I agree! I would MUCH prefer to use the infant carseat, but DD is maxing out in the length -- she was 26" two weeks ago, and we're going to be away for 2 weeks, so you see my dilema... If I could get an extra few week's use out of the seat, I'd do it. But I'm not sure how safe it is.

Suzanne, thank you for the link to the luggage carrier. I was wondering how I was going to manage with that behemoth in the airport...

I'm guessing if it fits ff, it'll fit rf too?

How is her head height relative to the seat back of the carrier? The general rule is that the carrier is okay if there is more than 1 inch between the top of baby's head and the seat shell (not the padding). My DS2 is all legs, so he hit 26" a few months ago, but has only just hit the 1" mark. He is a peanut too, so he fit the weight limit as well. If you can use the carrier, use it! It is the easiest to travel with and very seasy to install on the plane.

The other thing to consider is maybe buying a Scenera for a second seat (or a seat for a grandparent, etc.). It is a nice seat and weighs less than than the Marathon and might be easier for travelling with. They are very well priced (about $40 at Walmart).

yes a Marathon fits on an airplane. I've been on all sizes.

Does the BB Book really say it doesn't fit?
