Volvo 3rd row rear facing seat

We are considering installing a 3rd row (rear facing) seat in our Volvo XC70. And I am wondering what age is appropriate and safe for kids to sit back there.

I recall reading somewhere that you can't use a booster back there so I am guessing that means beyond booster years so say 7 or 8 years old?

If anyone has a clue on this one, I would love some insight.

55-80 pounds, I believe, and it can be a slightly smaller child who will fit in it, since it's such a small seat, and in a frontal crash they will be rearfacing and thus safe from that gut-crushing lapbelt problem they'd be in if boosterless in a big forward facing second row seat.
Of course, if it's 55 pounds, that's a 7 or 8 year old, anyway...duh, lol. (In Australia where I lived 20 years ago, my cousins were 3 and 5 and rode in one of those seats, with ultra cool 4 point harnesses! So neat...I crammed my 12 yo self in there on ocassion too...)

Well, Godparents (and their 5 kids), really, but it's easier to say cousins :). I lived there (Victoria) for a couple years and went for a couple summers. I used to be in awe of the seatbelt and carseat laws there, and was once the only one who could reinstall a tethered seat in a 1975 Volvo (did you ever see the OLD keyhole tether anchors? Those were tough to re-attach!)

Where abouts in Victoria, that is where I am from. Most people go to Sydney and don't head that far south, hearing you mention Victoria makes me homesick :)

Brighton, mostly. And six months in Mt Martha (that's a speck of a town, for sure! Close to Mornington...another speck, lol)
