Can't get hood to attach on my Twin Traveler

My new twin traveler (the crimson, which matches my existing Skip Hop!) just got delivered and for some reason I can't seem to get the hood to attach to the stroller. It seems to require super-human strength to close the clasps. My fingers are all red from trying to squeeze them shut. Is there an easy way to do this that I'm somehow missing?

I also had a very difficult time trying to put it on the Rally Twin. I just kept working on it every couple of days until finally it went on. Very Frustrating!

I gave it another try last night after both girls were in bed for the night. I was successful in getting it to get on with the help of pliers. It's insane that it's so hard to do.
