    Default Motoral walkie talkies

Someone told me recently that she uses motorola walkie talkies to communicate with her husband. The walkie talkies can be used within a span of 1 mile and is useful when they split up to run different errands with their 2 kids. She also uses it to communicate with the sitter when she goes out (they live in the city so 1 mile is a wide span for them). Plus she said it was the most important item they brought with them on vacation. Does anyone else have experience with this product? Is it worth the cost? Sounds like it could come in handy when you have lots of kids but then again 2 cell phones would accomplish the same thing. Also, I live in a suburb in Maryland so a 1 mile radius wouldn't be enough for neighborhood use.

We borrowed a pair of the really nice Motorola walkie talkies to use on a ski trip last year-- my husband likes to ski tougher runs than I do :) Anyway, they were great on the slopes. For everyday use? I can't see it being helpful. We live in a suburban sprawlish kind of area, and we'd be out of range way too quickly.

A couple years ago we bought a set at Best Buy (maybe a cheapo version of the Motorola?) for my BIL & SIL to use at Disney-- they lived in Orlando and were there quite a bit. They were maybe $30-$40, and did the trick for the theme parks just fine.

We have these. We use them at the beach. They're very handy when someone's on the beach, and someone else is in the condo.

I also stick one in my stroller when I go powerwalking, that was DH can get me if there's a problem.

Although, usually the problem is something like, "I can't find my shoes".... ;-)

We have some and love them! We took them to Disney and they were a life saver. We had to do a lot of swapping because Wesley was still too small for most rides. One of us would wait in line with Parker while the other took Wesley off to look at something. We'd radio our status so we could meet up and switch off when the ride was done. We don't use them around town due to the suburban sprawl problem. We occasionally use them when we're working in the yard (one in front, one in back). We've also taken them to places like Callaway Gardens, the zoo, and the mall at Christmas time. They make for very easy communication, IMO.

We use them quite a bit. As another poster mentioned, they are great for skiing when different people do different runs. This is our primary use. We also use them for home improvement projects, e.g. one person standing at the circuit breaker with the other stating whether the power is "on or off" at the desired location. They're great for the anywhere you might split up (e.g. mall, zoo, etc.) Lastly, we've used them when tag-teaming long drives to talk to the other drivers and discuss exits, etc.

Hee, hee, they are also great for caravanning! We don't have any, but borrowed them for going up skiing/snowboarding a couple years back. That was cool! The only thing was, there were LOTS of people using them at the slopes, so it was hard to find a clear channel! LOL :P
