Default OT: Paypal downgrade to personal account?

I recently downgraded my paypal account to a personal account so I wouldn't be charged a fee. DH sells most of his football tickets these days (since it is just too much for him to be gone out of town with Mr. Ryan) so I didn't want to have to pay the fee everytime we ebayed them.

So I got the paypal email that payment was made when the auction was over and that was that. I mailed the tix today and then I went to my paypal account (to pay Ms. Trish for the doggie sweater I bought off of swap) and I see that it says accept or deny. So, this means that she paid with a credit card, right? I just got her phone # from ebay and left a message telling her I don't accept cc payments and to give me a call so we can figure this out. My questions is this, when I read every single help question on the Paypal site they all say that I need to upgrade to accept the money. Okay, I get that but if on the main screen it says her transfer was instant, how is that a cc?

I am confused. DH says I should just upgrade the account but I just can't stomach those $10-$14 fees everytime I sell something expensive like the football tix. I have learned my lesson though on making sure I check paypal instead of relying on the stupid email they send out saying the buyer paid. Grrrrrrrrrr I feel so dumb. :P

TIA all of you ebay experts!!!!

I hate that you have to jump through hoops to see that a Paypal payment was accepted - why can't they just put in the e-mail that there's a problem???

To accept her payment, you need to upgrade your account. And since you already sent the tickets, that's probably what I would do. But you can't downgrade it again; that is supposedly a one time deal. However, you can open a second personal account for your funded transfers and keep this one for credit cards only - they just need to be attached to different e-mail addresses, and you can't put the same credit card on both accounts.

Grrr!! That just happened to me, except we didn't downgrade in the first place. I thought that if we had a personal account, we wouldn't be able to accept CC's. But instead, PayPal put it through and charged me 6% for doing so!

I've read all the help things, which are fairly incomprehensible, and I couldn't find a list of fees for transferring money. Lori, I thought we had a funded account. How do we figure out what kind of account we have and how to set it so that it only accepts funded payments? (Sorry for hijacking your thread, Debbi, but had to let you know you weren't alone!)

Hmm - that's a new one to me. I thought that a personal account couldn't accept cc's, period. And for premier accounts, the fee is something like 35 cents plus 2.9% of the amount transferred (whether the payment is funded, credit card, whatever).

That is my understanding too. If you have a personal account and someone sends you a credit card payment and you accept it- they automatically "upgrade" your account to premier.

Yikes! And they don't inform you? That stinks! I actually sent out an request for money and the person paid it. I didn't realize they had a CC account. Is there anything I can do to rectify the situation?

    Thanks!

If you have already accepted the payment, there is not much that you can do. But you should downgrade your account (or open a second, as I describe above) so that future payments aren't hit with the service fee.
