    Hi,

My son is severly allergic to peanuts. He ended up in the hospital the one time he had something with peanut butter in it. Anyway, as previous people have stated, many people who are allergic to peanuts are allergic to tree nuts as well. Also, the problem with sunflower seeds and sunflower based products are that sunflower seeds are most ofent processed in plants that also process peanuts. That might be why the teacher had a problem with what you sent in. As a former teacher, I remember how bad I felt telling people that they could not have something because of someone else's allergies. As a mother, I now understand the point of view of the parent of the allergic child. There is nothing scarier than watching your child gasp for breath in the emergency room. Anyway, I am dreading the day when my son has to go to school because I know that most parents are not as dilegent in following the rules. Kudos to you for caring enough about another child even if it is at times convenient for you and your child!

A little boy in ds's class has an allergy as well. I don't send anything that says it has been processed with peanuts. Cashews also may have peanut oil in their list of ingredients.
