Default How/Where can I find out what something is worth?

Okay... long story here... But I have a Shrink-wrapped, brand spanking new boxed set of the 1970 publishing of The Chronicles of Narnia. I think I got it for my 12th b-day from my great aunt and uncle. For some very strange reason, I never threw it away or gave it to charity. I even remember it sitting in my parents' garage on a shelf, just collecting dust.

Tonight, I dug it out of a box. ABSOLUTELY PERFECT condition, under 20+ years of dust. I was about to break open the shrink-wrap when DH stopped me.

Not a scratch, tear, bend, anything.

I looked up the ISBN and a "like new" version, not wrapped, went on e-bay for $35 as a BIN (they ended early). I can't seem to find much info on what it actually should go for. I know more than $35.... but how much more???

Any ideas where to find something like that out? DH thinks I should sell it (if its worth more than $45, which is what the 2005 box set is going for). My plan was to open it and read it, but now I'm thinking I should keep it in its original wrapping for a long, long time...

According to the ISBN, its the 1970's edition.

And for those of you concerned that I'm not reading it... being that I'm a teacher, I had an extra few copies of #1 in the basement. The one I pulled out to read has the same cover as my "antique". Its yellowing but never cracked open either. Dated 1970. And it had a bookmark from The Enchanted Forest Children's Bookstore in Portland, Maine. Shaking head... I have no clue...

LOL this is before barcodes. The price on the individual book is $2.95.

I'm xposting on MWS because now I'm curious and I really want to know how to find out what its worth.

My first thought is to go to a really nice used book store. Someone there may have a good idea (or you may see a set on a shelf!).

Good luck! You've got me all jealous-- my set was printed in '94.

Try asking Loganberry Books (I posted about their Stump the Bookseller here before). The owner seems great.

Bookfinder is my favorite book search service:
    http://www.bookfinder.com/
Their more/advanced search option lets you put in a ISBN to narrow your search down to the set you own. It will give you a good idea of what bookstores are trying to sell that particular complete set for.
