    Default treating DD's first cold

My 8 month old has her first little cold and I'm not quite sure what I can do. She's having trouble sleeping because of the congestion in her nose and I have tylenol cold drops for infants but the box says to call the doctor at her age. She is 22 lbs. and there is no dosage recommendation for her size either. I really need both her and I to get some sleep tonight, but I feel terrible calling the exchange for something so minor. Is there anything I can do to help her sleep? Will the tylenol drops be safe for her?

He lists lots of different medicines and the sppropriate dosages. My 20 month old also weighs 22 pounds (she's a peanut!), and based on this site we've been giving her a dropper & a half.

Also, get the humidifier going! They really, really help!

Sorry you're having to deal with this. It's no fun at all!

Sorry, I don't know about the dosage for Tylenol cold drops, but DD is just about 7 mos., and has had some pretty bad colds. We've had good luck with the Sudacare plug-ins, a humidifier and Vick's Baby Rub (in combination at night). Also, saline drops and a suction bulb several times a day really helped.

Also, our Ped. lets us give her 1/4 tsp. of Children's Benadryl now that she's over 6 mos., but she's only 17 lbs. I don't know if it would be more for 22 lbs.

Hope your little one feels better, and you both get some rest!

For the nasal congestion, we've had good luck with squirting breastmilk up DS's nose (a few drops) prior to using the nasal syringe (loosens things up considerably). If you aren't BFing, you can use saline drops I believe to do the same thing. It really helped get the gunk out when it wasn't coming out on its own.

THe PP's link to Dr. Sears site is great. The "call your doc" thing is just cover your butt from the manufacturer...you should be fine following Dr. Sears' recommendation on dosing for her weight (especially at 8 months of age).

Hope your little sweetie is feeling better soon.
