Which do you use/like/hate? Looks like we might need to fly out to my aunt's funeral, so it's obviously short notice and I can't spend time doing my usual careful research - nor do I care to at a time like this. I'm just looking for some rec's from my trusty BBB Mommy friends. Thanks!

Sorry to hear about your aunt. I like Expedia, find the best price on that, then go directly to that airline, which usually saves another $5. You could also find out if you could get a bereavment fare, but it usually doesn't do much.

I'm an Expedia gal-- DH uses 'em too. I like that I can plug in different airports after the initial options are laid out just to see other price and flight time options. We live in an area where we could fly out of 6 different airports (three large, three smaller) within a 2 hour drive of our house, so it's worth it to look multiple places.

Sometimes I get their best price and then go to the airline's site to see if I can get it any cheaper. Most times I don't bother.

    I'm sorry for your loss.

My recommendation is to call the airlines directly in this situation. A funeral of a direct relative is taken into consideration by several airlines. Some offered a 20% discount, some a 50% discount. When my uncle died two years ago, I called all five airlines that flew into the two closest airports. Two offered great discounts, three slight discounts. United offered me the best deal which was $220 on a fare that was $450 for a flight two days away. They do ask for confirmable information such as name of the deceased, your relationship to the deceased, funeral home, funeral director and phone number to confirm that information.

Sorry to hear about your aunt's funeral. It's hard to deal with death around the holidays. :(

Thanks for the tip. Fortunately, my aunt is still with us. But the prognosis is very, very bad. I hate to be such a downer, especialy since I'm usually the optimistic one, but I feel it is only a matter of time before she let's go. She isn't an emotionally strong woman and I fear she just won't have the will to fight. If only she knew how many of us want so desperately for her to stay with us.

    Anyway, thanks for the tips.

    Jenn
