Default Are nylons totally out of fashion??

I am such a nonfashion person...

I have a wedding in Chicago this weekend. I have a black dress i will wear (already decided on that, so if you think black inapporpriate for a wedding, Im aware of that perspective but feel quite comfortable wearing black). My question is do I wear nylons? It seems pantyhose are so 'out', and I only wear dresses in the summer and feel totally comfortable bear legged....but I never ever wear a dress in winter! If it matters, it is an afternoon wedding (3:00 or 4:00 i think)followed by reception.

So, are nylons expected, appropriate, or are they complete relics in todays fashion? Do nice shoes get a bit, um, stinky/sweaty (again in summer i wear more sandals, but will be wearing black sling-back heels with the dress)? I wont be outside long anyway, but dont legs get cold without hose?

Please advise so I dont end up on a worst dressed list, or 'what not to wear'...i WAS leaning to no hose, then thought it may be too informal and should don the hose for the occasion (along with the stinky feet issue)

    Thanks

edited to add - Im in my latter 30s, in case that matters...like i feel a 22 year old would be completely accepted with bare legs, but Im not sure where the line is drawn on the age spectrum.

I'm definitely not a fashion guru, but I would wear nylons unless I had open toed shoes on. To me, bare legs are more of a summer or casual thing.

You could wear either sheer black "nylons" or "nude" (depending on your skin tone). Both would look nice. The orangy fake skin colors would be the ones to avoid.

hmmm...this is a tricky one. I would lean toward wearing hose since it is still winter. But that said, I can't remember the last time I wore them anywhere. Seriously, I am trying very hard and can't remember. I know I still have some in the drawer though. Very tricky, sorry I am not more help.

For what it's worth, I'm 24, but feel more like I'm in my late 30's when it comes to fashion most of the time! It seems like everything that is "fashionable" is too young, but I don't want to dress too old, I'm only 24 for goodness sake! Ugh. Sorry to rant on your thread!

Good luck and have fun at the wedding!

I'm no fashion guru, but my opinion is: nylons of shoes are close-toed and no nylons if shoes are open-toed (or sandals).

If you are wearing open-toed shoes but still want some good "control," one good trick is to cut off a pair of control-top nylons above the knee (for a long dress) or mid-thigh (for a knee-length dress). That way you get the nylon feel up top with the nice, bare-legged look below. : )

Yep definitely wear the nylons. Winter in Chicago? You should not go bare legged. Like a PP stated though wear the color that most matches your skin tone... don't wear a 'suntan' color.

Many women still wear nylons to work (if wearing a skirt) in a professional setting... if not they look really out of place.

Wearing nylons to a wedding is along those same lines... unless it's a super casual 'beach' or outdoor wedding.

Have fun at the celebration! :-)

I would wear black ones. I definitely wouldn't go bare in Chicago in winter. I feel black ones look great. (I'm 30 and no expert, though!)

I would wear sheer black hose. Bare legs with a black dress and black pumps would be a fashion faux pas IMO. You could do a black dress with black sandals and no hose in the summer, but not in the dead of winter! Or you could wear fish nets or funky pattened tights if you want to add some fun to the outfit this weekend. HUE makes some really cute ones.

I wear black tights and hose all the time but will admit I have not worn nude or skin tone hose in a long time.

We had this conversation on another board a few weeks ago and the consensus was that as far as Hollywood is concerned, nylons are out - at least dark ones. I really hope this trend ends quickly! I am not blessed with legs that loog good bare, so I wear super sheer hose. They aren't nude or suntan, the color is called Buff, and it they match my pale ivory skin tone really well. They are Hanes Premium Absolutely Bare in Buff and I buy them at Target.
