Default Stinky furniture? Any furniture experts here?

    OK ladies, I'm desperate!

In January, we purchased a new bedroom suite for DD from Costco. Its very cute, seemed well made -- trundle sleigh bed, nightstand, armoire. Its similar (but not the same) to this one:

    http://www.costco.ca/en-CA/Browse/Pr...rPath=93*2746*

When we brought it home (in boxes, of course), we noticed it smelled. We assembled it mostly in our garage, then moved it up to her "big girl" room. It smelled so bad! Ugh. We let it air out for months. DD really only started using her big girl room in the past couple of months.

We have noticed that she now wakes up every night that she sleeps in that room (some nights she still prefers her crib in the baby room), and she wakes up coughing almost like an asthma attack.

Last night was the last straw. I had left the armoire (which has been empty except for some bedding this whole time -- we're still not 100% transitioned to her new room) open yesterday during the day and the room smelled worse than usual last night.

Is there any hope for this furniture? We have no idea what the issue is, but both DH and I are fed up (and will never buy furniture at Costco again). I'm pretty sure they will accept it as a return (even without the boxes), they are usually pretty good about that. But, its a cute set and frankly, I have no idea what to replace it with (and maybe all new furniture stinks?? -- not other stuff we've bought, but hey, what do I know?!).

If anyone has any tips on how to get it not stinky, we'd sure try them.

    Anyone else had similar experiences????

TIA (and sorry this got long!).

Our Costco furniture stank, too. The wood stuff doesn't stink anymore (either that or we're used to it and can't tell). The wicker stuff had to go -- it was moldy and that was the main source of stink. They actually refunded us for everything and let us keep the wood stuff for free. So our entire bedroom set ended up costing us nothing. Once the stink faded, it was a real bargain! I think the wood stink was the finish. It's clearly sprayed on, so I'm assuming it has some nasty chemicals in it that had to evaporate.

I would not buy from Costco again because of the stink factor, and also the quality is just not that great. My IKEA stuff has held up better than the Costco stuff, and it was cheaper.

Thanks. Sorry to hear you too had problems. I'm somewhat happy to know that it isn't just me (ugh).

I just can't see this stuff not stinking. Its been so long and it still smells so strongly.

Did you get children's stuff from IKEA? Anything that worked particularly well for a toddler room???

Thanks again for the IKEA tip. I sent DH out to IKEA and he's going to pick up a set tonight, in white, IN STOCK (no waiting!), and hopefully no stink! Plus, it is less than a third of the price of the Costco set. Its not nearly as cute, but hey, if it doesn't stink, I don't care!

    Thanks again.
