Help me get DS back to sleeping in his bed!
As I've posted before, we're having major sleep issues w/ DS. He refused to sleep until DH & I are in bed, lights off, TV off, etc. Problem with this is that DH is more of a nightowl than I am!
DS isn't going to sleep until 11 at the earliest...though occasionally 10pm if we're pooped!
He's also insisting on sleeping in the hallway w/ our door open and his head on our floor/body in the hallway. He's been doing this for a few months.
I've tried several times to institute routine with him but it's just not working (yet!). I've tried baths at 6:30 & upstairs by 7 to read, relax, etc. However, i'm falling asleep in his room and he's not! I can tell by several instances that he's tired at 7 but once we miss that boat (out of the house, out to eat, whatever) forget it.
A little background ~ he's fully potty trained, so therefore there's no gate on his door (rarly if ever used a training potty, so putting a potty in his room would result in a big mess!); If I exit his room and manage to shut the door quickly and hold it shut, he kicks, screams, etc to the point of throwing up (a ploy we've discovered). There's no longer a gate at the top of the stairs because 1) he figured out how to climb it 2) we raised it a teeny bit and he figured he could slide underneath just barely and 3) he figured out how to open the gate faster and quieter than DH & I ever did!
I've tried rewards; last night he said was going to sleep in his bed and today we'd go to the movies. OK, fine w/ me :-) Well when it came to it, he says, "No, i don't want movies. I sleep in the hallway!" Ughhh.
It's getting stressful because it leaves zero time for DH & I. I also end up having to wake DS up in order to get out of the house on time for daycare.
Although i've love for DS to be sleeping at 7 or 8pm, at this point I'm aiming for him sleeping in his bed! How have you dealt w/ the dreaded monsters? He does mention monsters....
Thanks!
Laura
Will is three...and doesn't sleep :-(
