We're having a cocktail party next weekend and I need some recommendations for songs or CDs to play. I want to keep a fun / hip vibe for the party and know that the music is really key. So, let's hear your suggestions :)

what's your age range for guests? Your own musical tastes?
I would probably just do classical or other instrumental (jazz?) at a low level if I was going to do music at all. You want to make sure people don't have to shout to be heard above the music.
I usually do salsa-type music. Sometimes 50's Sinatra type music. Sometimes I use CDs, other times I use satellite TV music stations.
Have fun!

Liza- I was going to post the exact suggestion. AS a gift, I just received the DVD of one of his shows. It might be great to play as background music and something to watch as well.

We're mostly early 30's. Music tastes definitely vary so I wanted something a little fun and not totally recognizable. Thanks for the suggestions so far!
Cocktail party means classic jazzy stuff to me. The first thing that jumps to mind is Ella Fitzgerald and Frank Sinatra.
But we usually just do a satellite radio station from Dish Network on our tv. Much easier that way. :)

I love the salsa idea - any particular CDs I should try?
I'm not familiar with him - I'll have to research tomorrow. Thanks!
