I love my husband, I really, really do, but I would NEVER do this for him! She is a true fan's dream wife!

I remember when I was taking a maternity tour of the hospital. THe L&D rooms had TVs with cable. One of the guys actually asked if it carried ESPN. Seems his wife was due around the time of some big championship. All I could do was gape at him. :-)

My oldest was due on Superbowl Sunday. Of course, he wasn't accomodating enough to come early, or even on time and had to be induced a couple of days later. I'm thinking that the woman in the story was less about accomodating her DH's need to see a game than "get this kid out of me NOW!" At least that's where I was at that point of my pregnancies (all but the last one, anyway).
OK, just read this to DH, and his exact quote: "Yeah, that's what I'd do". BTW, DD's due date was the day before the Super Bowl. All I heard my ENTIRE pregnancy was how terrible it would be if he missed the Super Bowl (and when the Steelers were doing well, it was substantially heightened. I was induced 2 weeks early b/c of pre-e, so thank goodness DH didn't miss the game... grrrrrrr

That's ridiculous. I'm glad my DH is a 'nerd'. :P
Plasma TVs in the maternity ward? Damn!

DD was born on opening day for the Cardinals. I let DH watch the game while i was in labor. He rejoined me after the game was over. I flipped it on and off, but the contractions were very "distracting".
even more psycho....i was hospitalized and near death while pregnant with DD, but we had playoff tickets for the Cardinals. I obviously couldn't go, but it was game 7....I let him make the drive 3 hours to the game so he could be there. I'm really glad I did. I wanted to be there so bad, at least he made it to the game.
we're pretty intense as far as fan insanity goes, though....

Man, I am glad that:
A- None of my husband's hobbies have fixed days and times. Well, music sort of does but there is always the next time, whereas games are sort of one shot deals.
B- My husband would never prioritize his hobbies over our child or my health.
I agree with Marisa, all the more reason to marry nerds that could not care less about sports. :P We have enjoyed sporting events together but I could never deal with my baby being second fiddle to a game.

The march of freedom that has sustained our country since the Revolution of 1776 continues, and no matter what setbacks may occur in a given state, freedom will triumph over fear and equality will prevail over exclusion." -Michael Bloomberg
ITA. Dh is the geek of geeks, who is an alumni of USC, and even those games interest him only if he happens to turn on the TV when it's on. We are definitely NOT a sports fan family, although we do get into it if it happens to be on. That's why the guy at the maternity ward totally knocked me for a loop with his question.

We were supposed to go to an NHL hockey game on the day that DS arrived (unexpectedly). We obviously missed the game, but later in the season I wrote to the organization and explained. They asked me to send in the unused tickets as proof and then sent us free tickets for another game that season. They also sent back the original tickets so we could put them in DS's baby book.
It was really nice.
