Default possibly TMI: heaviness of period with cloth pads

I know there was a link somewhere with information linking the heaviness or pain associated with your period with using tampons or regular pads. Does anyone have that?

My periods had been so light with my cloth pads that I thought my hormones were all screwed up again (way too long of a history to go into here). But, then earlier this month I got my period when I was out of town and didn't have my cloth pads. Had to resort to tampons and icky pads.

It was awful. Besides the fact that I hated everything about using them, my period was so much heavier than it had been in so so long. I immediately thought back to this info, and now I'd love to read up on it.

    Thanks,
    Holli

I just ordered some cloth pads from www.homemademama.com so I have no personal experience yet but on her website she too makes reference to less blood. i hope someone can post that info because I'd love to read it.

I don't remember off the top of my head, but you should e-mail Amy (daisymommy). I remember getting some articles from her. She (and I) also experienced a different in flow (and cramps) when we switched to cloth.

    Edited to change Amy's username.

A number of people have reported lighter flows using the Diva and/or cloth pads. I don't know about actual data but there have been plenty of people on these boards who have posted as such.

Unfortunately, I'm not one of them, but I probably have other issues going on. I do have to say that I never get cramps anymore, though.

Time was limited here, so I copied my original pst from 2 years ago, hope you don't mind :) And the articles I got were from
    http://www.allnaturalmamas.com/period_predicament.asp

    My Testimonial:
I have always had a hellish long 8 day cycle (using disposable maxi pads and tampons). The first half of the week things are so heavy, I would go thru a SuperLong Maxi every 2 hours! I needed 1000 mg. of Motrin to take the edge off the cramps, and I needed a day of couch rest on the first 1-2 days because I felt so weak and in pain. Not to mention lots of "irritation" from the paper products.

So, I took a chance and tried cloth Mama Pads. What a difference! My 8 day cycle was reduced to 4 days! My extremely heavy flow was reduced to what I always imagined a "normal" average cycle was like for other people. I only took 600 mg. Motrin once, and felt hardly any cramps at all. I felt so much better overall, probably because of the reduction in blood loss. The pads were so soft and comfy, I felt dry, and like I wasn't hardly wearing anything "extra" at all!

Thanks, Amy! I couldn't figure out what to search for to find your old post. :)
