Default Difference between Aquaphor & Petroleum Jelly

What is the difference between Aquaphor & Petroleum Jelly. They really seem to have a similiar consistency. I was recommend Aquaphor for some dry skin that dd had but then read somewhere that you shouldn't use petroleum jelly for dry skin. I thought maybe one of you Moms might be able to explain the diff to me.

    Thanks in advance!

My DH works for the makers of Aquaphor. From what I understand, Aquaphor lets the skin breathe and PJ is totally occlusive and doesn't.

If you read the label aquaphor has petroleum jelly in it, but it also has lanolin and I think water and maybe something else. Basically I think its just glorified pj if you ask me. Never heard not using pj for dry skin though, weird

I think both PPs are correct - I view Aquaphor as glorified, MUCH thicker petroleum jelly, but I think it DOES let skin breathe - they give out sample sizes like candy in radiation therapy for patients to use on their topical burns from the radiation. It works WONDERS on cuticles!

All I know is when my kiddo has diaper rash it clears it up... he screams with all the white creams but the Aquaphor is soothing! My sister had skin cancer and after treatment she was told to gob on the polysporin.... once it was more healed the doc said to switch to Aquaphor to keep it moist and continue healing!!!

I LOVE Aquaphor... it's the only diaper ointment/cream we use!

We LOVE Aquaphor. When DS had diarrhea, I mixed Aquaphor with a little Maalox and that was the absolutely only thing that cured his rash. We now keep an old Aquaphor tub always full of the "magic" cream!

I also use the regular stuff on DS's face if it gets too dry (and he lets me).
