Default RE: CD'ers - How did you get started?

I got converted here on the BBB, which then in turn led to diaperpin and MDC (mothering.com). DD was over a year when I came here so I was late in the game but I saved my CDs for baby #2 (working on that) so it will be cost-effective.

We started off with FuzziBunz - occasionally she will eBay her "seconds" which are perfectly fine. I think they're overstocks, actually. Then I got in on a preview/try-out sale for Snap-EZ which I liked too, especially b/c it was supporting a WAHM. Anyway, I thought pockets would be the easiest way to convert DH as well, since they're as close to real sposie dipe (what he was used to) as you can get. Toward the end, I even got him to stuff them himself!

We also used cloth wipes (velour/sherpa) which I LOVED, also from a WAHM.

This is a GREAT board for support and questions - I have found the moms here to be such a resource from anything from mama cloth to laundry detergent.

If you're used to sposies, I would definitely recommend pockets to start. You could probably find some for sale on the BBB swap boards.

Before DD was born. I knew I wanted to and was very happy to discover a world of fluff that was so much easier than the pins and covers I'd imagined. :)
Of course lots of voices of decent were upon me "oh, when you have the baby you'll see that it is too much work", etc etc. Same words received for my comments that I was going to have a natural birth and breastfeed. FWIW I did it all, :P.

We decided to try CDing to "save money." I honestly don't know what, if any, the savings will be. On the other hand, we've been using cash gifts to purchase all our CDing stuff.

We used disposables for the first 5 weeks. 1) our DS umbilical stump was not drying out with the dampness of the CD near the stump. 2) we were having a lot of problems with breastfeeding. Since this was our first child, we wanted to deal with one thing at a time.

We still use disposables at night mainly because we have a stash of them and we're a bit leary of finding the right combo for night time. We'll figure that out when we get there.

I started out with prefolds, Proraps, Bummis SWW, and Bumkins. My DH is a little scared of folding prefolds, so the bummis and bumkins are for him. I also bought a few pockets and AIOs to try out. Then I decided to buy a couple of contours for him, but they are SO big on our DS!! Can't use 'em yet. Then I found some fleece swaddlebees covers (not the pockets) on clearance and some imse vimse on sale... ACK! I'm a CD shopaholic now!! When we figure out what works best, I will have to sell what we don't like. On the other hand, if our second child is a different build, the things we don't like now may work the second time around??

I think I went a little nuts with purchasing different things...we have WAY too many covers floating around. I would definitely try finding stuff second hand for the beginning if you're not sure what you'll like. Fortunately we had some generous relatives, otherwise I think my DH would have a FIT with how much stuff I've bought. :-)
