Default best tools for learning fork/spoon self feeding

My 22 mos old is really just starting to fork and spoon feed himself. Any product suggestions (specific spoons/forks, plates, bowls, etc.) that will help him?

You may want to try and use the bowls that have a suction cup at the bottom of them so that the bowl doesn't slip all over. That really helped my boys as they started to eat cereal by themselves with a spoon.

I found that using adult spoons worked best for us as well, as the baby sized ones don't pick up much, and your toddler would probably have better luck with a bigger one.

    HTH, good luck!

We found that the curved handle/loop handle spoons really helped DD when she was first learning about spoons. Toddler forks are a lose though -- you can't stab anything, what good is that? We did buy her some appetizer forks at Crate and Barrel, as suggested here by somebody else, and they're great. A good size for her, but pointy.

We really like some bowls we bought at Target - I think they are by Nuby. Clear acrylic bowl with bright colored rim, cute animals in the bottom and most importantly, a suction cup that is affixed to the bowl. They are shallow enough to use as plate and bowl. I tried some with suction rings that come off the bowl (by Sassy) and those are a pain to put back on. Plus the shallow bowl works better.

For spoons we started with the toddler spoons with the curved handle:

Those are great until they get the hang of it. For forks we used a few very blunt ones we had gotten as gifts. Then when she became adept at using them I bought the Crate and Barrel ones I posted about:

The toddler forks by Take-n-toss work quite well for stabbing food. Kaya was able to stab her sweet potatoes today with them. But I agree that a lot of toddler forks are too blunt to do any good. I'll have to try some of the curved handle spoons when Kaya is ready to spoon feed herself.
