    Angry grinding teeth

My 3.5 year old DD has been grinding/scraping her teeth together. How can I break her of this habit? I know adults can be given mouth guards, but hers is more of a daytime thing, so I don't know how that would work. I've talked to her at length about it, i.e telling her it's bad for her teeth, and that she needs her teeth to be healthy so she can chew. This has not been effective at all, she just tells me she can't stop doing it. Does anyone have experience with this in a child? It's really driving me crazy!

    TIA

my dd does that too from time to time. It goes in waves. Off for a long time, then on for a couple days. No advice, sorry. I'm interested in what others have to say.

    i think we've said - don't do that, it's not good for your teeth. I don't remember.

Oh boy! Three and a half? My 15 month old DD is cutting her 2 upper chompers and this week we awoke to the lovely sound of teeth grinding coming over the baby monitor. While we are happy she will FINALLY have more than 2 teeth, it is a horrible sound! I need to prepare myself for the long haul on this one.
What does your DC's dentist/ped have to say?

My DD grinds her teeth in her sleep. Do you know if she does it then too? I asked the dentist about it and he said that they will outgrow it If not, then they will relook at the issue when their permanent teeth come in. He said not to worry so much when they have their baby teeth in. It's more of a concern about them damaging their permanent teeth over the long run..

DS started doing this about a month ago. At first it was almost constant (almost drove me crazy!) but now it's slacked off. I think it was more the thrill of discovering he could do something new than a real habit.

So it's a completely different situation, and I don't have any advice, but lots of commisseration...that's SO annoying!

The biggest mistake I made is the one that most of us make...I did not live in the moment enough. I wish I had not been in such a hurry to get on to the next thing: dinner, bath, book bed. I wish I had treasured the doing a little more and the getting it done a little less. - Anna Quindlen
