Default Help! BubbaRay, The kisses won't melt!

So I am making the hershey kiss on waffle pretzels, but the chocolate kisses won't melt. I am using the Hershey brand, not a cheaper one. I have has them in the oven at 170 and they didn't melt, so I upped it to 225, but they just get crumbly, not melted. What to do? Oh and I need it to work because they are DH's holiday work party tonight...

I make these with Hershey Hugs (white chocolate and milk chocolate swirled). 200 degrees 5 minutes.

For that recipe I'm pretty sure you need the swirl ones because the white chocolate has a much lower melting temp.

I thought the picture showed milk chocolate ones also. I'm planning on trying them for a cookie exchange this weekend.

I found it takes maybe 5 or 6 minutes and then you push the M&M in and they squish. I used regular milk chocolate, couldn't find the hugs anywhere! They don't look melted but they squish. I did mine at 170.

This is the way I was told to do it by DH's aunt, who makes them a lot. I agree with Karen, they squish more than melt (I use the milk choc ones, too).

Preheat oven to170 degrees. Place pretzels on cookie sheet. Top with kisses. Place cookie sheet in oven for 4-6 minutes. After taking out of the oven, immediarely put m&ms on kisses & mash down. Let cool

(or enjoy them good and melty like me!!)

ETA: She also does this with Rolos instead of the kisses, but I bet caramel kisses would work, too- double yum!!! Sometimes she pushes almonds on them instead of the M&M's. I think they are good, too, but I can't eat them b/c I'm allergic!

This is what I did, but the chocolate was all crumbly. But I think I figured out my ptoblem. I put in another batch but only for like 2 minutes. (I put the first batch in for the full 5.) This one came out the perfect amount of meltedness to take the m&m. So I think my oven temp is off. I think I left the first ones in too long on too high a heat. I also tried melting chocolate chips on the stove to make some chocolate covered pretzels, but I left them in the pot too long on a too high flame and they got crumbly and gross like the kisses. Well, live and learn. The second batch came out good. Thanks for the recipe.

I think the term for that is "burning" the chocolate. If it cooks too long it gets lumpy and isn't salvagable.

I made peppermint bark today and the dark chocolate didn't look melted but was pliable with a spatula.

    Glad you figured it out.

Hey, sorry I replied late. I hate it when work gets in the way! LOL. PPs seems to have taken care of the problem.

My DS just discovered peppermint bark at a party tonight. Would you mind sharing your recipe and any tips for a first-timer?

    TIA!
