Default It's beginning to feel a lot like cabin fever...

My 5 and 3 yo need to get outside. But it has been so cold that they just can't. Even recess at school has been indoors. They are driving me crazy! Plus, I've been decorating for Xmas and have boxes and stuff sitting everywhere that I"m afraid they will plow into. Why do boys insist on wrestling? How much fun can it be tackling each other on tile floors? They cry everytime they do it. Why won't they learn?

I even tried doing a fun Xmas craft activity today. They lost interest after 10 minutes. I really thought it would hold their interest. There was cutting, pasting, painting, coloring all involved. But no luck. They were right back at wrestling and chasing each other leaving me to finish the project and then clean it up. And I"m so tired and have so much to do. What was that saying my mother always used? Oh yeah, "why mothers get gray. sigh"

That's fantastic!! I just bookmarked that blog (after calling my Mom and reading that entry to her ). She reminded me of the time her Mom got called out of a meeting at school (PTA meeting or conference or something) to go home because the neighbor had seen my Mom's 2 older brothers on the roof of the house - their 3-story house. That was 50+ years ago, so at least you can feel better knowing some things never change and that it's not just you. Lisa, I feel for you. My 2 girls have been going at it this morning. I told them we'd do a holiday painting craft they've been asking to do later today as well as bake some cookies and I'm hopeful it will turn things around. Either that or send me running for the hills!

WHat sort of temps are we talking about? I checked Minneapolis on weather.com and it said today's high was 29F (-2C for me). Kids here play outside in temps like that allllll the time. In regular clothes with a winter jacket over top, and hats and gloves. Under -5C, we pull out the ski gear. But, yeah, totally fine to be outside in that weather.

Next week we are supposed to have a few days with a high of -8C (17F). That's quite cold for here (usually we're around 0C/32F), but not unheard of.

If you are really worried about exposed skin, you can put on Vaseline before they go outside. We don't usually bother here, but sometimes do that skiing.

Maybe let them outside and put the timer on for 15 minutes if you are worried.

Well yeah, TODAY it was 36 degrees. Heat wave! But for the past 4-5 days it was below 10 degrees (not counting the windchill). And now seriously, who wants to dress them all up in snow pants and such for 15 minutes? That just gets them wound up before they have to come back in! Now today was a different story. Unfortunately we were running errands most of the day so they didn't get outside. Hopefully tomorrow.

And omom and caleymama, great blog. I'm not sure I"m comforted to know that some things will never change. On the roof? yikes....
