Default Land End Coats-Opinions Angel Down & others...

    Here's the deal:
I have a North Face Nuptse Down Jacket that I love...but, for colder, windier days, I wanted something longer with a hood (don't want to schlep a hat w/ me). I decided to go for a LE coat.
I currently have FOUR in my posession (all of them I ordered in Black). THREE need to be returned ASAP. I seem to have an issue w/ each one.

At this point I *think* I am going to keep the Angel Down Parka:

My only issue with this one is..I am afraid the shiny-ness of it might make it look cheap. Has anyone else seen it or tried it on IRL...just curious what you think.

The other ones I have are...

My issue w/ the chevron is that it looks a bit like a sleeping bag on me. But in a way I guess it's cute.

Issue: no good "handwarming" pockets. The pockets are too low on the coat for my short arms. I could use the flap pockets, but kind of a pain with the velcro closures.

    Last but not least...

This one was just TOO HEAVY. Granted it would keep me warm, but it felt a bit like the lead vest you wear for an xray

Sorry for the long ramble. Wuld love to hear opinions before I return these.

Especially if you've seen the Angel Down IRL (please be honest if you think it doesn't look good...the shiny-ness)

    TIA!!!!!!!!!!!!

I got the Angel down one in brown and ended sending it back. Too shiny for me. I ended up getting gorgeous white Columbia coat on sale at Macys, that I love. It's a ski jacket though, so I needed an every day one.

I found it at Costco! A Michael Kors, long, chocolate brown, removable hood, with cozy pockets for 59.00. It's perfection! It hits about my knee, I think.
I wore it to the tree lighting ceremony the other night and was so darn cozy in 30 degree weather. I got two compliments on it from friends. I kept saying that I felt like I was wearing my down blanket, but it's cute!

They had a couple of other colors. I think off white and black.

    WHat about this Chalet coat:

I don't like the shiny fabric of the Angel down series -- I think it will be "out" next winter, KWIM?

I am afraid of this as well

I think I may like the chevron better for me than the chalet. I have short legs & I think the chalet might look silly on me

This is the exact one that I got at Costco, but it's not shiny in
real life. It's a flat, rich. chocolate brown.

I almost bought this green one while shopping in Chicago, but decided I needed a more neutral color, but it was to die for cute!

    Those are really cute.
I don't know when I'll have time to go out shopping for ME. And, since it's getting colder here, I'd like to either pick from what I have here or something else I can order & get SOON.
I think I am leaning towards the Chevron now.
    STILL OPEN to opinions though!!!!!!!!!

I like the angel down, have seen it in store, like it, think it looks exensive more than cheap. Do you like how the shiny looks on you? If you feel cute, go for it!

zappos has free ship and returns and they carry coats -- not to make it more complicated! good luck with your selection.

I have the insulated squall parka. It really isn't that heavy feeling IMO. I tried on the Angel Down Parka and liked it, but it just wasn't warm enough for me and a bit to poofy (it felt comfy though). I'm always freezing and the insulated squall parka has so far been the best choice for me. However, my second choice would be the angel down parka.
