Who assumes liabilities in a corporate sale can be pretty complicated and is certainly not something the average consumer is supposed to have to deal with, hence, the sound advice to purchase big ticket items with a credit card. The credit card company has the means and ability to sort it out and it is a feature they market to consumers to get them to sign up for a credit card and built into their interest rate and/or yearly fee.

I hope the OP calls her credit card company immediately and starts the process moving. And if you have American Express, they are wonderful to their card holders and make it very easy to dispute the charge. (I had a piece of furniture that never arrived and company went out of business.)
