Default Walk to school day - should I make son walk in bad weather?

We live about 6 blocks from school so not too far but not next door either. The weather is yucky and raining today and probably tomorrow too. I am having a hard time deciding if son and I (and his 5 year old brother) should walk to school tomorow on walk to school day. I am wondering what if the weather is bad, should we still walk? And what if he refuses to walk? Should I make him? Any advice on this would be appreciated. We have walked to school before but never on an official day and never in the rain.

    Thanks,

    Jessica.

I would do it. Take umbrellas and rain boots. It's not very far, and sounds like a good adventure. Play it up as such, and he'll probably be delighted to walk and splash in some puddles along the way.

Sounds to me like a great day for a memory and some picture-taking

That's what rain gear is for.

If it was really pouring -no. The kids would be sopping wet at school. If it was just yucky and drizzling - sure. It could be fun.

If it is your basic rain, sure. If it is nasty / windy / cold, then no.

You don't say how old your son is, but there might be an embarrassment issue for him if everyone else walks and he doesn't. If he's old enough, why don't you ask him what he would prefer to do?

Thanks everyone, Its not raining and we are walking today! It should be a lot of fun. My boys are 9 and 5 so walking with them is realy running since they never slow down but it should be an adventure. My only concern is their shoes getting wet. My son only has one pair so he will have to wear them all day if they get wet from poddles.

    Thanks for the advice,

    Jessica.

    Sure!!! It builds character!

And- when he has children of his own, he can tell them "When I was your age, I walked to school in bad weather! Uphill... both ways!"

I don't see any harm in it- Unless the weather is really bad.
