Default Going straight to cup (no sippie)

My ped recommended we start giving DD a cup of water to practice. I'm thinking of starting with a tiny bit of water in an open cup to see how she does. I know the majority of it will go all over her, the floor, etc. but I'm not too concerned about that. It's hot here so it might be a bit refreshing to get a little shower in her high chair I was wondering if I should get her a cup with handles or whether a regular small, unbreakable cup would work. Anyone BTDT?

A small, unbreakable cup without handles should be fine. Ikea has some good #5 plastic cups for a good price. eta- the only concern I would have with a real cup at that age is her getting too much at once and gagging. Not a huge deal in the scheme of things but that's one thing that's nice about sippy or straw cups since they limit the flow.

DD trys her luck at drinking from a little plastic cup. She has a sippy cup with handles that we try with her too with and without the sippy lid. She does equally poorly with both! I even get her a taste from mommy's glass glass... very carefully, if she shows interest. What I would suggest is a plush bib! I have a couple that someone gave me, I think they are from Little Me. At first I thought they were silly, but now I LOVE them. They absorb whate er misses her lips (which is often most)

We used plain open cups, Tupperware, Ikea, and often gave sips from our water glasses too. I usually tried it first in the bathtub - then no soaking wet clothes - or you can try it outside, where it doesn't matter if it goes all over the ground. We've never had a handled cup, and never missed it. Have fun!

We got Ikea cups, and used those with an old Tommee Tipee cup from my childhood. DS1 seemed to do well with handled cups.
